Manor Barn WI - May 23

OUR meeting began with Paddy, our president telling us about Irene's celebrations on her 90th birthday. Irene has been a long standing and valuable member of the W.I. and we all expressed our congratulations and good wishes.

Eight members had attended the Marshdown Group meeting when several of our members had submitted various items to a display of craft work which was on show.

The plant and book stall was quite busy and the helpers were much appreciated for their part in a pleasant evening.

The notice board was very full with details of various outings and visits planned to take place over the next few months and also a competition to write a ghost story.

Mary gave her ACWW report drawing our attention to the fact that the Windward Islands had supplied Britain with bananas for 40 years and the hurricane season, which is imminent, could demolish the whole crop putting in jeopardy the livelihood of the small family groups of growers.

Paddy then read a humorous piece highlighting the problems Noah might encounter trying to build the Ark with regulations as they are today.

After the break we got down to the serious business of discussing the Resolutions to be debated at the National annual meeting in June and gave the delegate our decisions as to how she should vote on our behalf.

We then enjoyed a ploughman's lunch and lots of chat. We are very lucky to have Joy and her helpers who serve such delicious lunches from time to time and with such good humour.

Our next meeting is at 10am on Thursday, June 12, at St. Peter's Community Centre when we welcome Mrs Pam Britton and her 'Fun with Flowers'.
