Lawson Piano Trio in Chichester

The Lawson Piano Trio are the latest guests at Chichester’s Music on Sundays club on Sunday, March 23 at 2.30pm in Christ Church, Chichester.

Club spokesman Raymond Greenlees said: “They are a well-established trio who have broadcast and appeared at the Wigmore Hall and the South Bank Centre and have commissioned new works which appear on a recent well-reviewed CD.

“For our concert they are playing a very interesting programme featuring trios by Debussy and Tchaikovsky. Both composers were strongly influenced by Mozart whose C major piano trio opens the concert.

“The Debussy and Tchaikovsky trios are key Romantic works in the piano trio repertoire, and the Tchaikovsky A minor, in particular, is a magnificent work of formidable proportions.”

Originally set up at Cambridge University in 2000, the Trio went on to pursue formal study as an ensemble as Junior Leverhulme Chamber Music Fellows at the Royal Academy of Music. The ensemble’s debut CD The Long Way Home was released in 2012 on the Prima Facie label through ASC records. This disc, which features four of the Trio’s own commissions, as well as a recent work by Mark-Anthony Turnage, received a five-star review in BBC Music Magazine.
