Free art event Dear Serge again at DLWP

Dear Serge is back with a bang tomorrow from midday until dusk, bringing the Brighton based collective The Spirit of Gravity and their group of artists as well as the Electro-crèche, a collection of toys that are set up for audience participation instead of a DJ between acts.

Alongside this, is a curated collection of performances and interventions from Joe Snape, John Strutton, ±Arcimago±, Cliff Stevenson and Bexhill College.

The Spirit of Gravity will perform in various spaces inside and outside the building throughout the event bringing artists such as Resonant Blue, described by Turbulent Times fanzine as “harshly relaxing”, Noteherder & McCloud’s noir jazz and street noise combining with field recordings for an unusual fusion of saxophone and electronics.

The line-up also includes Olivia Louvel, French-born, British composer, producer and performer, who crafts electronic songs with laptop and voice. Collectress, described by Foxy Digitalis as a cross between the Elysian Quartet and possessed Brontë sisters teasing an unsuspecting dinner party.

But more simply put, are a quartet of long-term multi-instrumentalist collaborators from London and Brighton, making both composed and improvised music.

Nil are Chris Parfitt and Dan Powell who combine to create acoustic free improvisation with elements of performance art. Then finally to complete this bumper line-up, Alistair Strachan will perform Antipattern, his new solo project using domestic aquarium technology, hydrophones, electronics and brass to tease rhythm and harmony out of noise.

Alongside this will be a showing of The Fort Process - a film by Ken Eakins - filmed last year at Newhaven Fort.

Dear Serge is an afternoon and evening of eclectic live performances at the De La Warr Pavilion, showcasing the best in cutting-edge live music, performance and art to the more diverse artistic practices. This is event is free and everyone is welcome, free parking on seafront and bar/cafe open throughout.

Cliff Stevenson’s Radical Gallery Activation Site Office will be open today (Friday) from 11-4pm daily leading up to the event, located in the DLWP Meeting room. Please drop in and talk to the artist about the activation of the Radical Gallery Bexhill, and the wider Radical Gallery project.
