Fire breaks out at Lewes Prison

Firefighters have been called to Lewes Prison this morning.

Two fire engines are currently in attendance, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service confirmed.

A spokesman said: “We were called at 10.10am to Lewes Prison following reports of a small fire in a cell.

“We have a fire engine from Lewes and and a fire engine from Brighton on scene.”

Lewes Prison said the small fire was put out before the fire service arrived.

It said there was no major damage and no staff or prisoners were injured.
