Royal British Legion’s Sussex Shoot

A FAMILY event will raise money for the Poppy Appeal this weekend.

Sussex County Royal British Legion is hosting the Sussex Shoot on Saturday (October 13) and Sunday (October 14).

The event clay pigeon and shooting event will take place at Ford Air Rifle Range, in Burndell Road, Yapton.

The winner of the cadet competition on the day will receive the Mike Paine Memorial Trophy, named after the late county manager who initiated the concept of the competition.

There will also be a branch/club competition and a general public competition.

Other attractions will include a ‘minefield’, craft and cake stalls and a tombola. Saturday will culminate in a laser and firework display, weather permitting.

“We intend this to be a high profile, original event increasing the visibility of the Poppy Appeal outside the traditional remembrance period to raise a substantial amount of money to support veterans and their dependants,” said Andy Chappell, from the legion.

Gates open at 10am, entrance is £1, with a £1 per try charge on most shooting events, apart from clay pigeon shooting which will be £6.

The fireworks and laser show will start at 8pm on Saturday.

There will be a bar and hog roast available. Entrance to the fireworks is £5 for members, £7 for non-members and £3 for children.
