The pairs were placed into one of four round-robin groups and, during the morning session, all pairs played seven games against the others in their section.

All five courts were full to capacity from 10am until the lunchtime break, with 210 games played by the end of the morning.

During the lunchbreak, results of the morning matches were analysed and new groups were created for the afternoon session.

The four pairs who had finished top of their morning groups were put into a group together, and the same applied to those that had come second, third and fourth in their respective group.

The format of pairs playing seven games against each pair in their group remained the same, and the challenge for the afternoon was to achieve the highest games score as possible.

Competition in the top group was dominated by Amanda Thompson and Claire Pardo (Crowborough), who were declared overall winners after winning an impressive total of 35 out of a possible 42 games.

Angelique McGuigan and Helen George (Harbour Way) took command of the second group, scoring 18 wins, twice as many as any of the other pairs in their group.

Winners of the third group were Karen Goff and Teresa Parsons (Storrington) with 15 games, and topping group four was home pair Patti Francis-Kerr and Sharon Porter.

The runners-up in each group, also awarded a prize, were Toni Risebro (East Grinstead) and Carmen Schmidt (Dorking), Heidi Dunster and Marjie Ridley (Harbour Way), Helen Owen and Sarah Bullough (Howard) and Karen Sellar and Doreen Shire (Angmering).
