COWDRAY Park Golf Club’s seniors’ championship has been won by the in-form Derek Smith.
The event – where players qualified throughout the year by finishing first or second in the relative competitions – was held under medal conditions.
Most of the top seniors qualified but the overall range of players went from six to 26 handicap.
Naturally with this ability of players competing, the scoring was of a high standard with over a quarter of players beating the course par.
Smith, who has been in excellent form recently, particularly in the final few inter-club matches hit a winning score of 65 net, one better than the runner-up John Newman. Third place went to captain Allen Sibley, who returned with 67 net, beating fourth placed Nick Austin on countback.
Much more golf in this week’s paper.
