GOLFERS at Goodwood got some helpful hints from one of the world’s best players when Justin Rose paid a surprise visit.

The Ryder Cup star and world No4 visited Goodwood to give members a memorable masterclass.

The 32-year-old from Hampshire has taken up a role as Golf At Goodwood global sporting ambassador and gave adult and junior members tips plus an insight into playing golf at an elite level.

Goodwood have more than 60 junior members with an average age of 12 and Rose was impressed with the venue’s interest in junior golfers, which resonated with his own experiences in getting started:.

He said: “Goodwood is a wonderful environment in which to play golf and the positive attitude of the club to cultivate juniors and create a centre of excellence as the future of the club is a great way of developing some wonderful talent in the south of England.

“The range of facilities is superb, with chipping areas and an academy which is fantastic for juniors.”

Goodwood’s head professional Ryan Fenwick, who played alongside Rose as an amateur, is now lead coach for the Sussex junior squad.

His long-term goal is to develop a college programme for young players combining technical, physical, mental and lifestyle skills.

Fenwick said: “We have some really talented juniors here at Golf At Goodwood and it is great for them to learn first-hand from one of the best golfers in the world.”
