Unlike in other competitions, there were no marks awarded for the difficulty of routines and all scoring was down to how well the routines were performed. With more than 200 competitors from eight clubs across the south-east, Dragonflyers needed to rely on their precision and accuracy when performing to stand out from the rest.

Seven-year-old Lani Smith got off to a winning start by achieving some of her highest scores to date in the age nine-and-under grade G group and taking the club’s first gold of the day.

Continuing with the winning streak in the same grade, Toby Smith took gold in the boys’ 11-and-under G, and in the largest group of the day Lana Collyer performed well in 13-and-under G to finish third, with Jess Murray eighth in the same group.

In club H age-seven-and-under, Dragonflyers had a clean sweep with Lauren Holloway finishing first, closely followed by Amelie Nicolson in second and Isobel Holloway third, with all three girls taking the team gold.

Competing in the highest grade of the day for the club in the under-11 F group, Rosie Budge performed two high-standard routines and, in a close-fought battle, finished third with only 0.2 marks between her and gold.
