Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club’s eight-and-under tennis team have won the 2013 West Sussex LTA Aegon Tennis League.

The Chichester Team comprising Thomas Bisatt, James Pollard, Toby Toft and Lucas Hutton travelled to the David Lloyd Tennis Centre in Worthing to compete.

In the first match of the round-robin league, the Chichester squad were drawn against hosts David Lloyd.

David Bisatt and James Pollard both had close matches against David Lloyd’s No1 player, Oliver Rozario, but came through 10-8 and 10-9 respectively. All the other matches against the Worthing Club were won, giving Chichester a comfortable win of 10-0.

The second match was a much closer affair with Chichester taking on West Worthing, who were fielding higher-rated players.

After the first round of singles and doubles, the match was tied at 3-3.

After a team talk, Chichester came out in a determined fashion and with great wins from Toby Toft and Lucas Hutton the team ran out winners 6-4 in rubbers.

The final match saw Chichester compete against a less experienced Middleton team. Chichester were always in control and registered a resounding 10-0 victory.

The tournament provided some great matchplay experience for all the teams and was played in a friendly and competitive atmosphere.

Head coach of the Chichester Tennis Academy Justin Pollard said: “There were some fantastic matches and all four players showed great determination in winning some tough matches.

“This is the second time this group of players have won the event and it bodes well for the future of tennis in Chichester.”
