PHIL WYLIE is the new Chichester Priory 10k champion.
The Bristol and West AC athlete took the honours in the 23rd running of race, forcing Jon Pepper of Brighton Phoenix to settle for a second successive runners-up spot by just three seconds.
Wylie overcame strong winds around the challenging course to cross the line in 30min 23sec - with Pepper second in 30.26 just pipping Southend AC’s Paul Whittaker (30.27).
The leading three opened up a big gap and the fourth-placed runner was Peter Huck (31.06).
Winner of the women’s race was Aldershot’s Charlotte Purdue in 33.37, while the first Chichester man home - as usual - was James Baker, who was 22nd in 33.06.
Race organisers were delighted with the success of the event, which was run in dry but very windy conditions - and even the sun came out for some of the race.
