The sun shone for Rogate Riding Club at their first open show at the Selsey Derby Jumping arena.
Competitors enjoyed a different look to their showjumping with features at such as the homestead bank and a sunken road.
Club chairman Lisa Parker said: “Everyone enjoyed themselves and said they would be back for our members’ day in July and the other shows we have planned at this venue.
“The course rode really well, the warm-up area was great and we appreciate the hard work that went into making this ready for us, especially our request for a clear round ring.”
Classes were judged under the phase-two system, by which competitors who went clear did their timed jump off straight away.
Results: Class 1 (30-50cm (1’0”-1’6”): 1 Lisa Lingham, Joker; 2 Chloe Hockeridge, Star; 3 Lin Conwell, Tiger Lilly; 4 Caroline Andrews, Ollie; 5 Shaun Linley, Shadow; 6 Clare Napper, Dylan. Class 2 (30-60cm (up to 2’0”): 1 Chloe Hockridge, Star; 2 Georgia Handley, Naughty Norton; 3 Lauren Edney, Splash; 4 Shaun Linley, Shadow; 5 Gaynor Stephens, Mojo; 6 Lin Conwell, Tiger Lilly. Class 3 (50-70cm (up to 2’3”): 1 Violet Murch, Little Star; 2 Gaynor Stephens, Mojo; 3 Lucy Greenway, Shim; 4 Georgia Handley, Naughty Norton; 5 Paige Knee, Derry’s Dream. Class 4 (70-85cm (2’3” to 2’9”): 1 Paige Knee, Derry’s Dream; 2 Sherrie Cooper, Megan; 3 Lucy Greenway, Shim.
Organiser and course builder Naomi Hemingway was pleased with the way the course rode.
“We couldn’t use all of our permanent features because the bottom half of our paddock has still not recovered from the wet winter,” she said.
“But we used what we had and tried to provide a flowing, inviting course. The weather was fantastic and we had some people along just to have a look. They’re bringing their horses next time, which is great!”
Members’ day is on July 12 and there’s another open derby show on July 27. For full details on these and other club activities, visit www.rogaterc.co.uk.
