Bognor professional boxer Liam Griffiths notched another win in front of a packed out York Hall in Bethnal Green.
Griffiths won every round on route to a points decision over London fighter Lee Spencer, gaining revenge for a previous defeat to Spencer on an IBA show back in 2008.
‘Bucko’ ripped up the script, upsetting the odds and inflicting Spencer’s first defeat in front of his 250 supporters.
Griffiths established his jab early in the fight and dominated proceedings with his superior footwork and stiff left cross. Griffiths looked the stronger man inside as well, commanding the fight with hard hooks to the body and lead hand uppercuts.
“It’s always nice to get a win on the road,” said Griffiths, “especially at the York Hall and in front of so many opposing supporters. The fact he beat me years ago, before we both turned pro, makes the victory all the sweeter.”
The York Hall is a world renowned boxing venue, established by the appearances of such greats as Henry Cooper, Lennox Lewis, Nigel Benn, David Haye, Ricky Hatton, Carl Froch and Johnny Tapia.
Griffiths said: “It’s been a good year for me. I’ve been busy and still have a couple fights left before the year’s out so I’ll be going in to them with good form.”
