Lavant House School’s under-15 netball team proved indomitable once again as they won the West Sussex west title for the fourth year running.
The annual tournament took place at The Regis School and Lavant fielded the same team who have won the competition for the past three years, since they were in Year 7.
Lavant’s head of games Claire Cobden said: “The girls naturally felt the pressure of having to try to retain that title but they won their first two games against Bourne and Westergate 9-2 and 8-1.
“Their next game against Bishop Luffa saw captain Poppy Wildsmith working hard in defence with Amy Deller and Hope Edwards consistent in the shooting circle, meaning Lavant triumphed 6-1.”
Games followed against St Philip Howard and Felpham. Zoe Barnett and Beth Moret linked Lavant’s defence and attack well and the opposition struggled to obtain possession of the ball giving Lavant a win from both matches, 10-0 and 11-3 the scores.
Their final game was against Chichester High School for Girls. Neither team had dropped a game, meaning the winner would take the under-15 title.
Cobden said: “Lavant started well with some effective defence by Helena Kingdon-Butcher and Milly Hindson and strong feeds into the circle by Lucy Massie. “The score was 3-3 halfway through the match and both teams were feeling the pressure with a number of mistakes being made by both sides. Lavant kept it together, though, and won the game and tournament.
“This team was the first I taught when I arrived at Lavant House and it has been a pleasure to see them grow as netball players. They have impressed me with their commitment and determination and I am bursting with pride at their achievements.”
