Aldingbourne ace Luke Herbert headed to the famous Brands Hatch circuit for the latest round of the Mazda MX5 Cup.

Qualifying went well and he qualified second on the grid for the first race ahead of his closest rival Chrissy Palmer from West Marden.

Race one was wet but Herbert made a good start, leading the race by the first corner. He kept his head down and out of trouble to take a lights-to-flag victory.

Race two was also rain-affected. Herbert started from pole position and made another impressive start, leading the race again.

Two laps later Herbert and Jordan Stilp aquaplaned at Graham Hill and ended up on the grass. The red flag was brought out and a full re-start ordered, meaning Herbert started from pole again.

The race was shortened to seven laps and Herbert led to take another victory from Stilp and Palmer.

Race three was a reverse-grid and Herbert started ninth. Herbert didn’t make the best start but was up to sixth by the Graham Hill Bend.

Herbert narrowly missed an accident at Clearways which brought out the safety car. Once the race had been restarted, Herbert made his way up to second place. He took the chequered flag in second place, also notching fastest lap on his way.

Herbert has moved ahead of Palmer to take the championship lead and will hope to continue his success when he heads to Knockhill, Scotland, for the next round in SRC Recycling-backed Mazda MX5.
