Chichester Runners & AC member Jessica Breach opened her 2014 athletics campaign at the South of England indoor combined events championships at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre in north London.

Competing in the under-17 pentathlon, she set a new personal best for the 60m hurdles - coming second in 9.27 seconds.

Her gradually-improving high jump technique saw her clear 1.39m, followed by a great new indoor PB of 9.11m in the shot.

She went to 4.96m in the long jump, which was enough to place her in third overall position going into the final event.

With a valiant run in the 800m, she stopped the clock at 2.47.37sec – but in the end, had to settle for a very fine fifth place overall, posting a new PB points total of 2,866.

With further individual indoor championship competitions coming up, this was very encouraging and also bodes well for the outdoor season.
