A whopping 800 of the UK’s most talented performers gathered to compete for medals and points towards qualification to the league finals at the 2012 Olympic venue, the Copper Box in London.

Anya Johnston successfully stepped into Libby Morton’s place after she had to withdraw because of illness to partner Izzy Hauxwell in the under-16 juniors’ synchro.

Despite never having jumped together, the girls pulled out a sensational nine-somersault-with-twists routine with fantastic height to finish an astonishing fifth. The Dragonflyers sync team are currently ranked second.

Izzy Hauxwell finished fourth at under-12 level, ranking her seventh, with Libby Morton in eighth. Johnston is ranked fifth at 13-14-years.

It’s a phenomenal achievement for all three girls with only one league event left.

Taylor Cleall came 14th with two stunning routines at 15-16-years, ranking her 20th

Sofija Kalnicenko, despite four weeks off training, finished 16th in the 11-12 years group to stand 19th, while Toby Smith, in the 11-12 years’ boys’ event, pulled out two great performances, finishing 15th to rank 20th overall.

Ellie Morton, Alice Chapman and Jenna Partridge also performed well – but missed out on rankings.

With just one more event to go, it looks like a trip to London is on the cards for some of the Dragonflyers.

Sponsorship is urgently required for the club’s top performers as the four girls have had to withdraw from a world age-group event in Salzburg because of increasing costs.

Anyone interested in sponsorship should visit the club’s website or call 07502 480394.

The club thanked Berstead Parish Council for a donation to help fund training courses so the club can maintain its high standards.
