More than 160 children aged from eight to 16 took part in the swim, cycle and run over different distances for age groups, in line with British Triathlon guidelines.

There were more than100 children in the novice category alone, taking part in triathlon for the very first time and all got their medal at the ceremony at the end of their race with cheers from parents and family.

Organised by Hedgehogtri, this is the fourth event this year following successes at East Grinstead, Horsham and Billingshurst. Another was held just after the Bognor event, in Brighton.

The Kidstri series invites all children to take part in any of the events and has novice and tristar (British Triathlon categories) so there is a race distance for everybody.

All start individually, so no-one is first or last until the race is complete and results produced. There were some great performance from many children and it was great to see so many parents enjoy cheering them home.

Paul Hedger, race organiser at Hedgehogtri, said: “The events this year have been very popular with more 1600 entries over the series and it is great to see so many active young people taking on triathlon after seeing the great achievement of our Olympic medal winners. We love to see the children achieve.”
