Race committee member Gavin Oclee-Brown said: “We are limited to 2,000 runners. Last year we had 1,386 runners and I would say we are at about the same stage of entries this year. We opened entries earlier than ever this time and people were queuing to put their names down.”

The Rotary Club of Bognor Hotham started the race in 1995 but this year will be the first which links the race formally with the town’s Tone Zone Runners.

“The partnership has progressed well. It has made a real difference to us to have Tone Zone Runners involved,” said Oclee-Brown.

“The intention is to continue the partnership next year but still under the charity umbrella of the Rotary Club of Bognor Hotham.

“I’m always delighted how many people want to run in the race and there is a lot of local support. The race will continue to have a strong emphasis on charity.”

Most runners will be local, not belonging to any particular running club, but taking part because they want the personal challenge. But a large number of clubs and groups will be represented, the biggest being the Tone Zone with well over 100 entrants.

Last year saw some £1,000 raised to help Stonepillow, a charity helping homeless people around Bognor and Chichester.

This year’s charity partner is CancerWise.

The main 10k race will be preceded by the junior fun run which takes place on the prom.

Twelve to 14-year-olds start from the bandstand at 9.15am, running 1.5k to Marine Drive West; eight to 11-year-olds run 800m, with mums and dads if they wish, starting at 9.30am opposite the Royal Norfolk Hotel, to the same finish.
