Mark Catlin is hopeful Pompey fans will come out in force to back the stars of tomorrow for the club’s glamour FA Youth Cup clash with Manchester City.
The club have confirmed the third-round tie will take place on December 15 (7pm kick-off), with tickets priced at £4 for adults and £2 for concessions (over 61 and under 23).
Hopefully, our fans will come out in numbers to see some of the talent we have at this club and a few of our stars of the futureMark Catlin
With City – beaten finalists in last season’s competition – now considered to be the leading lights in youth development in this country, it promises to be a stern test for Mikey Harris’ side.
But the club’s chief executive insists there is no pressure on the Pompey young guns and expects a healthy turnout.
Catlin said: ‘I would think we might get a couple of thousand coming along.
‘It’s a great opportunity for our young players to test themselves against some of the best young players in the country.
‘Hopefully, our fans will come out in numbers to see some of the talent we have at this club and a few of our stars of the future.
‘City pump millions and millions of pounds into their academy and they have done for a number of years.
‘But I’m not worried about what might happen. It’s a day for the lads to enjoy themselves. It’s a good fillip for everyone.
‘The boys have worked hard to get a tie against Manchester City and I’m sure they will give it everything on the night.’
At present, only the south stand at Fratton Park will be open for the fixture.
But the club will monitor advance sales from the ticket office in Frogmore Road and online in case further parts of the ground are required.
Pompey beat Plymouth 3-0 in the first round and then came through on penalties against Bristol Rovers last time out.
