Whittingham makes keeper decision

Trevor Carson will go straight into Pompey’s starting 11 to face Rochdale tomorrow.

And the keeper could be joined in Guy Whittingham’s squad by both Gavin Mahon and Therry Racon.

Whittingham has sealed a one-month deal for Racon and admitted he’s keen on Mahon.

The Blues boss has reacted quickly to John Sullivan’s errors at York by dropping him.

He is confident Carson can go straight into the side after arriving from Bury.

‘It’s very rare to get someone who is playing regularly now unless you are a club in a higher division,’ said Whittingham.

‘We have to make sure he fits in well, can hit the ground running for us and is up to speed.

‘That is quite rare but Trevor was good in training.

‘He’s vocal and he has a lot of experience.

‘His all-round game is a good game. He will play against Rochdale.’

Mahon will have to be registered by midday today to be available for the clash with Keith Hill’s men.

Whittingham has been impressed with what he has seen from him and Racon, who have been training with the Blues this week.

He said: ‘We’ve been considering both of them.

‘They’ve trained well and fitted in with what we’re doing. That’s important.

‘Therry’s come in and we know him from last year – and he’s a decent player.

‘He can keep hold of the ball and can keep things going for you.

‘We seen him training and he’s looked fine.

‘Gavin’s been at AFC Wimbledon and we like what we see of him. He’s definitely one we could use.

‘Negotiations have gone well with both of them.’
