Pompey are hopeful of completing the signing of Matt Tubbs within the next 24 hours.

And Paul Robinson is set to join him as a permanent arrival at Fratton Park.

Tubbs’ season-long loan spell at AFC Wimbledon is expected to be cut short.

He’s set to be recalled after he played in last night’s FA Cup clash with Liverpool.

Neal Ardley’s side put on a brave display but lost 2-1 to the Premier League outfit, with Steven Gerrard scoring twice.

Tubbs played the full 90 minutes alongside goalscorer Adebayo Akinfenwa and half-volleyed a glorious chance wide in the 33rd minute.

That was his best opportunity of the match as the Wombles fought hard against the Premier League side.

Now the 30-year-old’s focus will turn to finalising his future, with Pompey confident of landing him.

Bristol Rovers and Wimbledon have also tabled attractive financial packages for the striker, who has the option of becoming a free agent if he agrees to cancel his Bournemouth contract.

That would enable him to move to Fratton Park permanently rather than on loan until the season’s end.

The signing would also be the first of the transfer window for Pompey as boss Andy Awford bolsters his squad.

Meanwhile, Robinson is also set to pledge his future to the Blues.

The central defender has played 25 times and scored one goal since arriving on loan from Millwall on the eve of the season.

He has established himself as Awford’s best defender so far during the campaign with some towering displays.

Robinson is out of contract with the Lions this summer.

The Blues have been eyeing a permanent deal and now they are set to get their man.
