Pompey have continued their summer recruitment with the signing of Gareth Evans. Here is the lowdown on the midfielder...

1. Evans joined Manchester United from Crewe to play in their youth set-up, yet opted to return to Gresty Road at the age of 14. However, he never made a first-team appearance for the Railwaymen.

2. His maiden Football League season was spent at Macclesfield, where he scored seven goals. However, more than half of his 45 appearances for the then-League Two club came from the bench.

3. At Bradford City he was nominated for Mitre Goal of the Year after netting the first of two goals against Northampton in May 2010. He would eventually finish in the top 10 during a campaign which saw him score 11 times.

4. The 27-year-old made 46 appearances for League One’s Fleetwood Town last season, scoring four times. He failed to feature in only three league games as they finished 10th.

5. Evans has started four of Pompey’s pre-season friendlies, scoring against Coventry and Woking. In total he has featured for 304 minutes - more than any other Paul Cook triallist.
