Jake Jervis is ready to hit the ground running against Mansfield today, according to Richie Barker.

The 22-year-old striker was finally given the green light to complete his move to Pompey yesterday after a lengthy delay for international clearance.

Jervis spent a short spell on loan at Fratton Park from Birmingham last season, scoring once in three games.

He joined Turkish outfit Elazigspor in the summer, but the move turned sour quickly and he came back on the radar.

Former boss Guy Whittingham attempted to bring the front man back in November but was denied the chance over concerns Pompey may be liable for compensation costs.

Since then he became a free agent and the Blues have now received the necessary documents for him to resume a promising career.

And Barker believes the forward is ready to make up for lost time.

He said: ‘Jake has been desperate to get out and play a part at some point, and with it being a home game, he wants to be a part of it.

‘It’s been a long process but we got there in the end and we’re pleased to get him.

‘I think he is ready. He has worked extremely hard in training, his attitude has been fantastic and his mind set is that when he gets his opportunity, he needs to be ready to do the right things.

‘He has bought into what we are trying to do.’

The only concern now is that the match beats the weather.

After yesterday’s downpour, there were no plans for a pitch inspection, but further rain could yet put the game in doubt.
