Pompey have received a double injury boost ahead of the crucial clash with AFC Wimbledon.

Joe Devera and Simon Ferry are both back training and the pair could be surprise availabilities for Saturday’s Fratton Park fixture.

There were concerns over a knee injury to Devera when he was forced off against Exeter City shortly before half-time last weekend.

However, the defender was back jogging on Tuesday and will today undergo a scan which will hopefully reveal the extent of the damage is not as bad as first feared.

In addition, Ferry is training as he battles to recover from the back injury which has sidelined him for the last four matches.

Crucially, neither have returned to full training, although Barker is not ruling them out of being in contention for his squad on Saturday.

He said: ‘Joe is down to have a scan today and we will know more by then.

‘He did a bit of jogging within 78 hours of the injury at Exeter, which is encouraging.

‘It’s obviously worrying when a player comes off in a game, you believe it must be serious.

‘But he’s now running and we will give him a confirmation scan to see if it is as bad as we initially imagined.

‘If that is fine there is the opportunity to get him out to full training again tomorrow ahead of the game.

‘Simon has been doing some training this week and is not a million miles away from joining in with full training.

‘We have got to be safe with him and make sure he can come through it okay considering the time he has missed so far this season through injury.’

Wimbledon are currently 12th in the League Two table, five points ahead of Barker’s Blues.
