Trevor Carson will bid to build on his promising Pompey arrival at Oxford tonight.

Guy Whittingham will continue with the Northern Ireland under-21 international as they go to the Kassam Stadium in the Johnstone’s Paint trophy (JPT).

But the Blues manager is weighing up a rest for Patrick Agyemang in the second-round tie.

Tom Craddock could come into the equation after time out with a knee problem.

Whittingham said: ‘Trevor Carson will start in goal.

‘He’s had one game for us and we need him to have another.

‘He’s not had many and he will miss the Bury game.

‘So we need to get some cohesion going with the back four.

‘It might be a consideration to rest Pat, though.

‘We need to see how ready Tom is and whether he’s ready to start a game.

‘We will wait until the last minute to see with Tom.’

Simon Ferry and Danny East (both hamstring) will miss the U’s cup clash, while David Connolly (calf) is still missing.

Yassin Moutaouakil is back from a three-match suspension.

With JPT rules stating six of the side must have started the last league fixture, there is a limit to the switches Whittingham can make.

He said: ‘There may be a little bit of rotation.

‘No-one new is injured.

‘Everyone’s fit who was fit before Saturday.

‘Ferry is still injured, Connolly is still injured and East is still injured.

‘Danny picked up a knock in training on Thursday, just to his hamstring.

‘He got a kick on it so we don’t want to rush him back.

‘Yassin is back. He’s trained hard and done well when he’s played.

‘But Joe Devera had a steady game on Saturday and stood out.’
