Andy Awford is adamant Pompey fully deserved their late victory over Exeter City this afternoon.
Jed Wallace struck the only goal in the 90th minute to settle an open contest at Fratton Park as the Blues made it four matches unbeaten.
The top scorer had earlier missed a 73rd-minute penalty and it had appeared the hosts may have to settle for a point during a lively second half.
Yet Wallace had the final say with his 13th goal of the season, as Pompey remained in 16th spot in League Two.
And Awford felt the victory for his improving side was warranted.
He said: ‘They played their full part in it today and our lads did as well.
‘It was a real good game of football with both teams trying to play on a difficult surface.
‘We hit the bar twice, missed a penalty, scored and had a few other opportunities, while Exeter had their opportunities and hit the bar.
‘It was a good game but I think we edged it and the crowd made a massive difference to getting us over the line and I thank them.
‘We stuck to the game plan and fully deserved the three points.’
