There’s more silverware being shared around the local youth football teams.

Barnham Trojans held off a strong Worthing side to claim victory in Arun & Chichester Youth Football League Challenge Cup.

The Trojans battled to win 2-1 in a game of two halves which saw Liam Brady grabbing two first-half goals to secure the double – the first under-11 side to do so for many years.

Barnham were hot off the mark and got stuck into their opponents with captain Jack Ratcliffe leading the way with a great performance.

Brady scored his first goal with a cool finish to put the Trojans 1-0 up. He scored his second by latching on to a great pass from Toby Evans and slotting home another calm strike.

Trojans keeper Ellis Brundle had a quiet first half but just before the half-time whistle he pulled off a fantastic save to protect his side’s two-goal lead.

The tide changed in the second half with the Trojans finding themselves under constant pressure. The midfield of Jack Chapman and Denis Whiteman played some nice passes to Joe Allen and Seamus Tilley.

Defenders Elliot Harrison, Dylan Jelley, Tommy Nicholls and Jack Trodd repelled the Worthing attack.

They succumbed when a superb strike made it 2-1 but the Trojans held out for the win to seal their season’s double and put them into the under-11 history books.

Bognor 4 Barnham Pumas 2

Bognor confirmed runners-up spot in the A league in their final game of the season.

They created three chances in the first five minutes but were unable to capitalise and Pumas’ first attack with a well-taken lob from outside the box.

Allstars levelled with a great passing move in which Liam Morley set up Micheal Canavan for the equaliser.

Bognor led a couple of minutes later after a well-taken goal by Morley.

Bognor could have added to lead after a high kick on Scott Bingham in the box, but Charlie Osborne missed the spot-kick.

Barnham got back into it with quick passing to bring it to 2-2.

Bognor regained the lead five minutes before half-time when Morley again outpaced the Barnham defence to fire home.

In the second half, the tireless work of Bingham got a reward when he fired a rocket of a shot in the top corner.

Allstars kept Barnham at bay in the last 15 minutes. Barnham finished second and still have a cup final to look forward to.

Manager mark Osborne said “The main objective this year wasn’t to win anything, but to create a good footballing side.

“There’s a great backbone in this side with determination and commitment and at times this season they have been outstanding, but consistency is the main factor.

“The boys should be proud of what they’ve achieved as some weeks we’ve had only ten players. They are all be looking forward to this Sunday’s cup final.

“I’d also like to thank all the parents for their hard work as without them, the players would not be at the games.”

Predators faced Barnham in a double header - their last game as a youth side.

The tradition of pulling positions out of a hat meant not one Predators player was in his normal position.

The first game was played with little gusto but in the second half, Predators saw an opening and Mouse took advantage and hit the back of the net.

Predators keeper Keiran Williams, playing on the left of midfield, outshone everyone, in the 1-0 win.

The second game was again played with little enthusiasm. An amazing cross-shot from Oliver saw the ball hit the back of the net.

The victory sees Predators finish their final season in youth football as runners up in the B league. All the lads have vowed to be back next season playing for Predators under-18s under manager Paul Harris, coming out of early retirement to take the lads into the world of men’s football.

PREDATORS: Irish, Josling, Williams, Birch, Furlong, Mouse, Hillier, Bosco-Brown, Farndell, Oliver, Davies, Cook, Rodway.
