The Sids started their home Sussex League division three game with Ifield without four regular players, but they didn’t let this deter them as they took the game straight to their opponents.
They breached the Ifield defence at ease and were rewarded after ten minutes when Dean Platt rounded the full-back and played the ball into the penalty area and Paul Barnes slotted the ball home. On 16 minutes Dean Platt put them 2-0 up.
Ifield were finding it difficult to get into the game and when they did break through, the defence dealt with the threat with ease.
It was no surprise when on 28 minutes Dan Bassil scored to virtually put the game beyond Ifield’s reach.
The second half began with the Sids putting Ifield under intense pressure, but with the rain getting heavier and conditions worsening, it was hard for either team to make any headway.
It wasn’t until the 78th minute when the Sids won a corner and Gary Jones scored direct from the kick.
The Sids brought on Dan Raven for Barnes and Simon Hounsome for Jones.
A home defender played a back pass on 85 minutes which stuck in the mud and an Ifield forward reacted quickest, collected the ball and rounded the keeper for a consolation.
Sids are now seven points clear at the top.
