SIDLESHAM are just five points from winning the Sussex League division two title - and are now guaranteed a second-place finish at worst.
It was top-v-bottom as the Sids welcomed TD Shipley to the Rec for their final Saturday home game of the season - and a good crowd turned out to watch it.
The Sids went straight on to the attack, but their opponents put most of their team on the defence making it hard to make any headway.
The Sids could not get the goal they craved and the TD keeper was making some great saves - but they were rewarded when on 25 minutes as Jimmy Brown collected the ball on the left, cut inside and, with a tremendous volley, put the Sids 1-0 up.
Six minutes later, Dan Bassil’s shot was saved by the keeper but the ball fell to Dean Platt, who stroked the ball home to put the Sids 2-0 up.
The second half began badly for the Sids when Andy Carrigher had to go off injured. He was replaced by Sean Newman and they continued their attack on the TD goal but they were being kept at bay by the keeper.

With Tuesday’s match in mind, the Sids made two substitutions, taking off Dean Platt and Andy Hounsome and bringing on Dan Raven and Ricky Mullens.
With TD having ten men behind the ball it was just a matter of seeing out the match.

On Tuesday night, the Sids beat Billingshurst 2-0 with goals from John Phillips and Sean Newman.
