The Blues will again be plying their trade in division one of the Southern Combination under manager Steve Bailey and will also be aiming for some success in the knockout competitions.

They have played three friendlies so far. They lost 3-1 at Wick, then beat Littlehampton 4-2 and neighbours Sidlesham 4-1.

Chairman David Lee is pleased with progress and said: “The squad has been improved with the introduction of new faces and we have already shown an improvement upon last year.

“The most notable signings to date are Billy Chatfield and Dan Martin, both of whom return to the club after being at Pagham last season.

“We have also secured the signings of Jake Ebling, Tom Groom, Jordan Lillywhite, Toby Lynch, Joe Manners, Ciaran McGreal and Harry Perry, to name a few.

“There is greater depth to the squad and Steve (Bailey) is still hoping to add one or two more players.

“We are delighted that we have kept virtually all of last year’s squad together, apart from Ryan Morey and Ben Mepham, who have chosen to go the other way to Pagham.

“From last year’s squad there are still a lot of youngsters, but they are now a year older – they are more experienced and they should start to make more of an impact this year.

“We intend to continue with our policy of playing youngsters and to help develop them over the next few years.

“It is encouraging there appears to be more competition for places this season across all areas of the team. Training sessions have been well attended, with more than 30 training on most occasions.

“The players realise they will have to fight for their places and they have responded to this well.

“Overall we are looking forward to the new season and hoping that we will make an improvement on last year.”
