Chichester City Ladies 6 Keynsham Ladies 0

FA Women’s Cup R1

The ladies’ first team played brilliantly to win 6-0 at home to Keynsham Town in the first round proper of the FA Women’s Cup.

There were two goals from Jenna Fowlie and one each for Jade Widdows, Emma Alexandre, Shannon Albuery and Kally Ambler.

City host QPR in the next round on Sunday, January 10.

Having beaten Keynsham 3-1 in the league earlier in the season, Chichester had a good idea of how their opponents would play.

Keynsham enjoyed the lion’s share of early possession but were rarely troubling Sally-Anne Thompson in the Chichester goal.

In contrast Chichester used their possession very directly and created several chances from crosses and through the lively Ambler up front.

It was from one of these crosses that the opener was scored on the stroke of half-time. After a powerful run from Chloe Dowdell on the right, she delivered a teasing ball into the box. Ambler miscued her effort but Fowlie arrived to tap in.

Chichester knew the next goal would be crucial – and they got it when Alexandre got a touch on a fantastic delivery of a corner by Lucie Challen.

It wasn’t long before Ambler added the third when she was put through one on one. The fourth came via Aulbery after more great work by Ambler left her with an empty net.

Captain Fowlie added the fifth with a cool finish cutting in from the left and the scoring was rounded off when sub Widdows rounded the keeper and walked the ball into the net.

Chichester’s final game of 2015 is away to Larkhall Athletic in the league this Sunday.

Brighton Ladies 5 Chi City Dev Squad 0

After two Sundays off, the Chichester development squad were back in action at the Amex training centre in Lancing on the 3G surface.

The first half was dominated by Brighton, though City remained disciplined.

A goalcame 15 minutes in following a scrappy mix-up around the box.

Brighton discovered Louise Galway in superb form, making saves from all angles.

Chi did find joy going forward, and Steph Mills was a threat down the right. Carmen Kager worked hard up front on her debut.

The second half again saw Brighton find Galway in sensational form.

For Chi, Ella Potter and Steph Mills combined well while Jodie Prince was constantly busy, attempting to break down play around the midfield. Gemma Halford was forced into several last-ditch challenges.

Brighton found another breakthrough around the 75-minute mark and as City tried to apply pressure further up the pitch, Brighton found gaps and went 3-0 up through a penalty.

Despite good work from Galwa, Brighton made the score 4-0. The final goal came from an athletic volley.

The scoreline did not reflect how hard Chi worked.

The development squad now have a break until they go to Lewes on January 3.

Chichester City girls’ under-15s won 2-1 at Eastbourne.

City’s under-13s lost 4-2 at home against Hollingbury Hawks. They all played well as a team, talking to each other and never giving up.

Sophia Wickenden scored both goals while Bea Daley was named player of the match for her persistence and determination.

The under-11s played in a tournament at the Sussex FA ground playing four games, drawing three in the league against Mile Oak, Crawley United and Crawley Town and losing a final play-off 1-0 to Mile Oak.

Two goals were scored by Charlie Davey. Elsie Heriot and Charlie Davey were named players of the tournament.

The girls’ section had their youth Christmas party at Oaklands Park on Sunday and the young teams were joined by players from the ladies’ teams for a photo.
