Chichester City ladies mixed up their first team and reserves in a useful pre-season workout under lights in which they beat Aldershot 4-1.

City were on the front foot from the off with the pace of Chantelle Strudwick up front causing problems.

Jade Widdowson in central midfield started to control the passing and soon Chantell Strudwick was put through on goal and finished well in the bottom corner with her left foot - her first goal in green and white.

Aldershot had some good players who could pass the ball well and a long-range effort was saved by Lauren Bateman in the Chichester goal.

A long-range effort from Widdowson that went in off the bar made it 2-0 and Chichester were fairly comfortable.

After the break, Chichester rang the changes and were slightly slower of the mark and Aldershot scored on the break with a great finish giving Hannah McNamara, who had taken over in goal, no chance.

The introduction of Kally Ambler all but ended the contest when she volleyed in after some great work from Gabi Fisher and Strudwick down Chichester’s right.

Five minutes later, Ambler broke into the box and was brought down for a penalty that was superbly put away by Strudwick for her second of the game and Chichester’s fourth.

The first team and reserves begin their league season this Sunday (Sept 1).

South Park 2 Chichester Ladies Res 2

It was a slow start for Chichester with a different starting 11 and a short back pass to stand-in keeper Abbey Shrubb was closed down quickly by a South Park forward and the ball cannoned off the striker and in.

Chichester had a goal from a corner by Lauren Ellis disallowed - the ball had gone out of play on its way into the box.

Stacy Baker in Chichester’s midfield was dominating while Lucy Stanbridge was having an outstanding game at right-back.

For the second half, Jodie Greenway came on in midfield and took control.

A free-kick on the right was delivered in to the danger area - Natalie Clarke fought for it and it fell for Ellis who equalised.

South Park - who play a league above City - broke the offside trap to take a 2-1 lead with ten minutes to go.

With almost the last kick of the game, Gabi Fisher broke down Chichester’s left, cut back on her right foot and hit a great effort that the South Park keeper tipped on to the post for Sian Payne to follow up and make it 2-2.
