A bulldozer has begun demolishing the main stand - the major piece of work in a summer programme that is seeing the much-loved ground transformed.

Following a couple of weeks of 'soft demolition' the real action has begun and fans have been reacting with a mixture of sadness at seeing the familiar old stand - and the structures either side of it - being taken apart and excitement at the new facilities that will replace them.

The Rocks are building a new 367-seat grandstand, a new cover for the Seasons end of the ground and new toilets, as well as putting up new floodlights and installing an improved sound system.

They have warned it is the sort of work that will be vital if they are to maintain their place in the non-league pyramid and look to climb in the future.

A crowdfunding drive has resulted in £42,000 being raised by fans and other backers, while a Football Foundation grant and club funds are making up the rest of the £250,000-plus scheme of improvements.
