Bognor set up new link with ex-manager Howell
Youngsters dreaming of making the grade at Bognor Regis Town may now have a better chance of doing so thanks to the coaching expertise of former Rocks boss Jamie Howell.
The club's youth section have announced an exciting new link with Howell's All Star Soccer West Sussex to provide a more professional level of coaching for the U12s to U16s. And the ex-Nye Camp gaffer will also assist current manager Michael Taylor with the club's Isthmian Youth League U18s side.
It is a huge coup for the set-up and Howell, who won promotion with Bognor to the National League South before moving to Eastbourne Borough four years ago, says he is delighted to again be associated with the club for whom he made over 400 appearances as a player.
He said: "it is great to be involved again with Bognor and I am really pleased to link up with the club and its youth section. I see the link between Bognor and All Star Soccer being an excellent fit which will benefit both parties, but more importantly, the young players in the Bognor area."
General manager Simon Cook explained: "Michael and Carol Taylor have done a superb job, along with their committee in thoroughly reorganising and growing the youth side of the club.
"They now have 30 sides (21 boys and 9 girls) from under 7s up to under 18s, with almost 400 children participating.
"As a result of this success we have agreed plans to further enhance the youth section of the club and create a ‘development centre’ for the U12s to U18s, with the aim of providing a real pathway for youngsters to progress through the various age groups, towards the first team. It is important that the club's philosophy and playing style is replicated at all levels."
*Meanwhile, players can attend the Bognor Regis Town Youth FC U18s Isthmian League Trials Evening on Tuesday 28 July, 6:30pm - 8pm at Bognor Sports Club, Hawthorn Road, Bognor, PO21 2UU.
