Rocks skipper Harvey Whyte is more a midfield dynamo than a sweeper but the industrious workhorse was prepared to brush up on his versatility at Nyewood Lane.

He was on hand to lead a work party of players who volunteered to pick up brooms and fill wheelbarrows as they helped tidy up the Nye Camp terraces to do their bit as the ground continues to get an upgrade.

Joining the Bognor captain was James Crane, Keaton Wood, Chad Field, Charlie Williamson, Ashton Leigh and Michael Baker, while manager Jack Pearce and coach Robbie Blake were on hand to oversee proceedings.

It follows a fundraising effort that helped boost the Rocks coffers by £51,000 -- money that will help to finance various developments at the ground, including a new 357-seater grandstand, new floodlights, a toilet block and PA system.

And the skipper said: "Those players that could make it wanted to put something back into the club after what has been fantastic effort from supporters and sponsors.

"We made good progress de-weeding and sweeping up and generally tidying up the terraces. It was the least we could do and we actually enjoyed. It was nice seeing some of the lads who I haven't caught up with since the season came to an abrupt close.

"It'll be great to eventually get back to playing here in front of the fans and we very much look forward to that day."
