The encounter, which had been hyped up via social media, started fiercely and there were a number of early cards and strong tackles going in from both sides.

Pirates started brightest but makeshift Newtown keeper Matt Rake made some good saves early on to keep Villa in the game.

The rest of the half was scrappy but Nyetimber broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time when captain Frangou scored his 11th goal in as many games with a fine finish from just inside the box.

It was 2-0 to Pirates not long after the break when Scott Towers impressively worked his way past the full-back to tee up Turner to who put the game to bed.

Newtown didn’t give up and fought to the end, not allowing Nyetimber to push for the third they were looking for.

The victory means it’s 18 wins from 18 in all competitions for the Looters, who last tasted defeat in March’s Centenary Cup quarter-final against West Chilts.

Next up it’s a trip to East Grinstead to take on Forest Row in the Intermediate Cup fourth round with a possible encounter with Sidlesham up for grabs in the quarter-finals.

Pirates: Pye, Hamm, Horn Williamson, Pasterfield, Cox, Towers, Chester, Haga Hammond, Turner, Frangou. Subs: Linkhorn, Miller, Westbrook, Angell, Towers.
