Cricket: Bognor can’t make it count at Slinfold

Slinfold’s decision to bat after winning the toss looked to play into visitors Bognor’s hands as pace duo Jim Lee and Graham Bush had the opposition at 80 for four in their Sussex division three west clash.

Fine support from young Joe Ashmore, Charlie La Foret and Josh Broad (2-47) kept Bognor on the front foot but a counter-attacking 48 not out from Waseem Ul-Haq kept Slinfold in touch,

Slinfold finished on 186 all out, the excellent Lee (3-31) and Bush (3-47) the pick of the attack.

Bognor slipped to 26 for three but a fine, dogged 48 from Mikey Harris and a determined 76 from skipper Luke Seward brought Bognor back into the match.

Overs ran out with Bognor set to finish the game with a flourish, and both teams settled for a draw.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Bognor’s batsmen found themselves in a tangle with four of the top five departing for single-figure scores.

A measured innings from young Mikey Wake (28) stopped the rot and he found support from the lower-order batsmen to take Bognor to 155 all out, Slinfold’s William Tucker (4-32) and Mubassar Hussain (3-27) the pick of Slinfold’s attack.

A quick blast from Bognor quick Rich Cox (2-59) kept Bognor in the hunt but a steady innings by Slinfold’s David Wilding (77) saw Slinfold to their total and a six-wicket win.
