You can use these free resources to entertain, educate and look after yourself from home

Most of us will be spending more time indoors thanks to the coronavirus pandemic - but that doesn't mean you have to be bored.

Once you've practically completed Netflix, there are plenty of other classes and activities you can access online to keep your brain and body healthy and happy.

There's a huge library of exercise videos available for free on YouTube, all designed for various abilities and interests. If you're no longer able to get out to the gym or play your usual sport, these videos are a great way to keep moving, even when you're stuck inside.

Blogilates is a popular channel for Pilates workouts, and offers special "apartment friendly" videos which use low-impact movements to avoid disturbing neighbours, if you live in a block of flats or a home with thin walls.

For yoga classes, Yoga with Adriene is one of the most popular channels on Youtube, showcasing workouts to suit all abilities, as well as some guided meditation videos.

Fitness Blender is an exercise channel with just about every workout you could think of - from long cardio workouts to short muscle-building videos. While some of these videos require a yoga mat, many you can do without any equipment whatsoever.

With many personal trainers unable to give classes or sessions at the gym, some have turned to Instagram to live-stream workouts. Laura Biceps will be doing live body weights workouts on Instagram, while Barry’s Bootcamp - a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout - will also be streamed on Instagram.

If you have a favourite fitness influencer, make sure to keep checking their social media channels as they may be offering a similar service.

Mental health

During this difficult period, it's important to look after your mental health - especially if you're isolated from friends and family.

Mindfulness can be a great way to do this, and from Monday 18 March the Mindfulness Association will be leading free online meditation from 7pm, followed by the opportunity to have a chat with other mediators afterwards. You can find the links to the meditation on their Facebook page each day.

For those struggling to sleep, the Dark Noise app - which offers a library of soothing noises like rain, white noise and campfires - will be free to use during the pandemic.

Big White Wall is a an online community for people who are stressed, anxious or feeling low. The service includes round-the-clock support from trained professionals and an active forum for chatting to other members. You can download it from the app store on your phone.

The NHS also has a list of apps which may be able to help you with a range of mental health issues.

Arts, culture and entertainment

You don't even have to leave your sofa to see some world class art. Google is now offering virtual reality tours of some of the world's finest museums - from the Louvre to the Acropolis Museum. You can access the tours - and more - here.

Many artists (including Chris Martin of Coldplay, Yungblud and Christine And The Queens) have taken to Instagram to live stream performances for free. If you follow your favourite artist, keep checking their social media to see if they're planning any upcoming live streams.

Fancy something a little more challenging? Ivy League Universities in America have put hundreds of their courses online for you to take for free - even listing how many hours and weeks each will take to complete.

The British Library also has an impressive range of digital resources you can explore, from Victorian photography to images of Leonardo Da Vinci's notebooks.

If you're tired of watching Netflix alone, you can create a Netflix Party - a new feature which allows you to synchronise video playback with your friends, adding a group chat so you can comment on whatever you're watching together.

Or, if cute animals are your thing, several zoos and aquariums around the world are offering live-streams for you to fawn over. Monteray Bay Aquarium and San Diego Zoo, for instance, have several live cams to choose from.
