Thankfully, there is a big new release to get your hands on, and it will be available to play right now.

Surprise! Activision has revealed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered (to give it its full title) to be real!

That's according to a leaked German PlayStation Store listing; this past weekend, a dataminer peering into this week's update for fellow CoD titles unearthed a raft of details.

Here's everything you need to know about it:

What is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is a remake of a game first released back in 2009.

That game was the sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the game that revitalised the shooter franchise and turned it into the blockbuster gaming behemoth we see today.

Technically the sixth instalment in the Call of Duty series, the game follows Task Force 141, a special forces unit fronted by Captain Soap MacTavish, as they hunt down the leader of the Russian Ultranationalist party.

At other times, you'll play as a member of the the United States Army Rangers, who are defending the country from a Russian invasion.

The game first released in November 2009 for PC, the PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, and was universally acclaimed, selling nearly 5 million copies within 24 hours of its release.

The German store states the campaign has been "completely remastered with improved textures, animations, physical rendering, HDR lighting, and more".

Will there be a multiplayer mode?

One of the biggest selling points of Call of Duty games are their multiplayer modes, which pit teams of players against one another in violent matches of quick-witted gunplay.

Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer component was one of the best received of the series upon launch, with many of the game's maps and levels still ranking as some of the best in CoD history.

Which is why many fans will be disappointed that Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is rumoured to include only the single-player modes.

Hence the inclusion of 'Campaign' in the game's full title.

Instead, fans will have to take to the online play of last year's Modern Warfare if they want to enjoy some throwbacks to Modern Warfare 2; a number of remastered maps have been and will continue to be made available in that game.

When can I play it?

The game is expected to be made available today (31 March).

At the time of writing, the game is unavailable, but we'd also imagine the game will be fully distributed across PS4 and Xbox by 6pm, when Call of Duty releases its weekly update.

The German store listing has its price set at €25 (around £22).
