Spring has certainly sprung for the Yapton Cottage Gardeners’ Society.
With a less than perfect preparation weather-wise, Yapton Cottage Gardeners’ Society held its first show of the year earlier this month.
There were 215 entries and 41 exhibitors who took part in the society’s spring flower show, held in the Yapton and Ford Village Hall.
More than 100 people went along during the public session to enjoy the host of beautiful blooms, cacti, vegetables and shrubs on display.
The event saw two of the judges making their first visits to a Yapton flower show, and one or two new members were also recruited for the society during the day.
With the public opening of the show in the afternoon, stalls offering plants, bric-a-brac, jewellery and greetings cards, as well as refreshments and tasty treats, did a healthy trade.
A raffle also took place for those wishing to try their luck.
The society’s chairman Roy Phillips made the trophy presentations at the close of the event.
Show secretary David Donovan received the Harry March cup for the most points in the horticultural classes, with first-time exhibitor Lesley Vigar taking the Pratt trophy.
Six-year-old Imogen Holden retained the Junior Spring cup for her points total in the children’s classes.
The next society’s next flower show will be held on July 7.
