Emergency services were called to the A285 slip road leading onto the A27 Portfield Roundabout at just after 5pm yesterday (Wednesday, March 16).

A woman in her 30s and an 11-year-old boy who were in the car which rolled managed to get themselves out of the vehicle, and were checked over by paramedics before being taken to St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester for further assessment.

A spokesman for the South East Coast Ambulance Service said: “At 5.10pm we were called to reports that a car had overturned at the A285 eastbound slip road onto the Arundel Road (A27).

“We attended the scene with one ambulance crew. It was reported that a single car had been involved.

“Both the adult and the child were able to get out of the vehicle themselves, and were described as walking wounded and conscious.

“Of course, because of the nature of the incident there was the potential for serious injuries they may not have been aware of, so they were both taken by ambulance to St Richard’s Hospital for further assessment.”

He added that the woman was described as being approximately in her 30s and the boy was 11.

The eastbound exit slip road at the Portfield Roundabout was closed until being reopened a short while later.

Police and firefighters attended and there were reports of petrol leaking on to the road.
