A POPULAR sandy beach has been awarded Blue Flag status yet again.

West Wittering Beach has been given the gold standard for the 19th straight year.

The top award is given to only the best beaches around the county and looks at four main factors.

Environmental education and information, water quality, environmental management and safety and services are all examined annually, and the beautiful sandy beaches within the Manhood Peninsular once again grabbed to marks in all areas.

The beaches are hugely popular during the summer months with sun-seekers from all around the area.

Boats from nearby harbours are often moored just offshore in the shallows and a hot sunny day attracts thousands of visitors from far afield.

A statement on the West Wittering Beach website, relating to its last rating, said: “West Wittering Beach is proud to be a Blue Flag Beach with its associated high standards of cleanliness, safety and public information.”

The beach also offers a range of watersports throughout the year, from kitesurfing to windsurfing, and there are a number of privately owned beach huts.
