A TEENAGER from Walberton is heading off to Asia to work with a Nepal Disaster Relief project.

Alfie Laurence, 18, of The Street, will spend two weeks as a volunteer with Projects Abroad, a global volunteering organisation based in Worthing. With him on the trip will be fellow Brighton College student Rebecca Jones, 18, of Shirleys, Hassocks.

They said it would be a big challenge for them personally, as the centres that Projects Abroad work with in Nepal often suffer from a chronic lack of resources.

They will be working with children who are malnourished or come from disadvantaged backgrounds, but they have been told their presence alone can be very beneficial for the Nepalese.

Peter Slowe, director of Projects Abroad, said: “Nepal destination is looking forward very much to meeting them and they definitely want them to bring some pictures of Sussex with them.”

The organisation offers various placements in 28 countries. Projects include teaching, building, care and conservation, as well as more focussed projects like medicine, journalism and business.
