FLAGS fluttered, drums rolled and pride shone through as members from across Bognor Regis’ scouting movement marked St George’s Day.
Scouts, Explorers, Cubs, Beavers, Guides, Brownies and Rainbows alongside their leaders paraded through the town to Our Lady of Sorrows, in Clarence Road, where a special service to mark the occasion was held.
There was standing room only as Ally McCaffrey, District Commissioner for Bognor Regis and District Scouts, welcomed everyone to the service.
Mrs McCaffrey also welcomed local dignitaries in attendance, including MP for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton Nick Gibb, chairman of Arun District Council Terence Chapman and Bognor’s deputy mayor Adam Cunard, as well as the chairmen of Felpham and Aldwick parish councils Paul English and Dr Tony Poland.
The service featured readings, prayers and hymns.
The groups, including members from, Bognor, Bersted, Felpham, Aldwick, Pagham and Middleton, then renewed the promises they made when they joined the organisation and anyone who had ever been a member was invited to do the same.
For the first time, the Guides, Brownies and Rainbows also made their new promise.
