Police have confirmed they are investigating after reports of a fire at the Bognor branch of Boots last night.

In a statement it said: “Police were called at around 10pm on Wednesday (28 September) by a member of the public who saw the fire door to Boots in London Road, Bognor was open and an alarm was ringing.”

While West Sussex Fire and Rescue, who also attended the incident, have confirmed it was a ‘false alarm’ from its point of view, the ‘smoke’ seen has been reported locally as being part of the store’s security system.

A police spokesperson stated ‘it is believed some perfume and aftershave had been stolen’ and that ‘officers were still at the scene this morning (29 September)’.

Witnesses are asked to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting reference 1455 of 28/09.
