UPDATE: Man hit by train at Oving was 25-year-old from Tangmere


A 25-year-old man from Tangmere died after being struck by a train at a level crossing in Oving yesterday (December 31).

He was hit on New Years Eve shortly after 2pm.

British Transport Police had officers at the Woodhorn Lane level crossing following the incident. A spokesman said: “I can confirm the man who died at Oving on Wednesday was a 25-year-old from Tangmere. His family has been informed.

“Colleagues from South East Coast Ambulance Service and Sussex Police also attended, where they discovered a body of a man at the scene.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.

“We will prepare a file for the coroner.”

All trains were cancelled between Chichester and Barnham, with replacement buses running between Barnham and Havant.
