Roadworks are set to continue on the Havant bypass, near Portsmouth, between Friday and Monday, to carry out repairs to the bridge over the railway line.

Highways England has said that the westbound carriageway of the A27 will be closed between the A2030 Eastern Road roundabout and the Portsbridge roundabout.

Last weekend the eastbound side of the road was shut – leading to huge traffic queues on major Portsmouth roads and the M27.

The closure will be followed by narrow lanes running over the bridge with a 50mph speed restriction in both directions for up to ten weeks.

The A27 will be shut between 9pm on Friday and 6am on Monday.

Closures are set to continue on the A23 this weekend as well with drivers being advised to plan an alternative route.
