SANDCASTLES are set to become a regular sight on Bognor Regis beach.
Buckets and spades are at the ready as the beach on the beach project has been given the go-ahead by Arun District Council.
The council’s cabinet agreed to funds of up to £20,000 for the sand play area for small children when they met last Monday.
Leader Gillian Brown said: “This is a good news story. It is a one-year pilot but I have to say it is a very exciting project and one that we are all pleased to support for Bognor Regis.
“It was identified in the leisure report that we needed to increase services on the seafront and this does that.”
The rectangular sandpit will be excavated in the more stable shingle on the beach to the east of the bullnose. It will be filled with sand – ideally suited to making sandcastles – and it is hoped it will be ready for use by Easter.
During the winter it will be covered over with decking and, if the project is a success, re-used.
