CARDBOARD castles surrounded Chichester cathedral on Saturday night (October 19) for Stonepillow’s Big Sleep Out.
More than 100 people took part in the sponsored event and while it both started and finished with heavy rain it could not dampen the atmosphere.
“It was really, really successful,” said Emily Skiggs, community fundraiser for Stonepillow.
“It stayed dry so it was a warm night with clear skies and a full moon, but a few people got caught out in the morning as there was a torrential downpour about 7am.
“The aim was to raise £10,000 and at the beginning I was thinking that was optimistic but we may well have got that.”
Aida Stephens (pictured left) from Whipped and Baked bakery, Guildhall Street, was one of the people who slept out.
“It really did bring it home,” she said.
“My whole body aches and that was just from one night staying out. I am definitely going to do it again next year.”
